So, how long on average does it take for Wegovy to work? Let’s find out - here is a general overview outlining what to expect when taking Wegovy:
Month 1 - Your body will adjust to the medication in the first few weeks. Because the initial dose is typically low, your weight loss may not be as prominent at first. You may also begin to notice side effects such as nausea - but these typically decrease over time. Interestingly people will begin to notice appetite control often earlier than actual weight loss and this can be within days of starting. The weight loss comes with time, once the appetite control kicks in. Some people will also report that they see a reduction in their waist size or circumference before they see a change in weight on their scales!
Month 2-3 - Now, you’re on your way to the 2.4mg dose of Wegovy. You should begin to notice significant weight loss during the first three months, as your body has adjusted to the medication. Clinical trial participants lost between 5-10% of their starting weight by the third month, with a mean weight loss of 6.7%.
Month 4- 6 - By month 6 you’ll be on the 2.4 mg dose of Wegovy, having moved up from the 1.7 mg dose, and your weight loss results should be much more noticeable. In a clinical trial, patients had an average weight loss of 10.9% of their initial body weight.
One Year - You may notice your weight loss beginning to plateau after losing a substantial amount of your initial body weight or you may still be losing weight if you have not met your target weight, only time will tell. You may also notice improved health - including healthier blood sugar levels and a reduced risk of weight-related issues.
